What did you do this past week?

This past week, I tried to establish some academic discipline within myself. I made sure to wake up early, get through my morning routine, and get to campus to begin studying. It worked out quite well. Energy levels were much higher, and I ended up getting through quite a bit of my assignments. Most notably, I managed to nail down updates for my Formal Methods course projects.

What’s in your way?

Not much! Perhaps some registration issues-wasn’t able to get into mechatronics II due to a lack of prerequisites. Other than that, I just need to finish this semester strong.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I would like to keep up with my routine and get ahead in my classes. I hope every day will be productive — it's painful to lose an entire day because of a lack of sleep or being glued to your bed in the morning.

What did you think of Paper 13. What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

It is a perspective that I have never experienced personally, which is what makes an article like this so valuable. It reminds me to be aware of what experiences women in CS may have faced, and to use this awareness to be open-minded and promote inclusivity.

What was your experience of subqueries and refactoring.? (this question will vary, week to week)

It is somewhat refreshing to return to Java. It is a very familiar language for me, and I like that the subjects of our readings are being applied to our lectures.

What made you happy this week?

Keeping up with my routine! So much energy and no shame in sleeping. One of the worst feelings at night is being stuck between sleeping and making up for the work you did not do throughout the day. Because I was on top of my academics, I was able to be more social and catch up with old and new friends.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Perhaps this is obvious, but the morning is the most important part of the day to have a routine. It is very easy to get stuck doing nothing when your brain is struggling to turn on. The night before, I like to visualize exactly what I need to do the next morning, that way I can autopilot while still moving forward with my day.
